SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.
There has been practically no change in the general meteorological situation since yesterday. The extensive low-pressure area to the east of New Zealand is still very Intense, Chatham Island reporting a barometer reading of "28.91 Inches at 9 a.m. today, while a widespread anticyclone covers Australia and the Western Tasmau Sea. Strong south-west winds have continued to prevail, reaching gale force in places, and the weather has been cold, changeable, and showery In most districts. Conditions, however, have Improved somewhat on the west coast of the South Island.
