EXCITED COMPETITION
(Received May 10, 10. a.m.) LONDON, May 9. The March series of, wool sales has opened. A total of 9337 bales was offered, including 4039 New Zealand, and about 4472 bales were sold^ There was but a poor selection of merinos, but a representative offering of crossbreds. , v Attendance of 'buyers crowded. the exchange, and competition was general and excited. The Home trade was bidding keenly for; crossbreds. Prices were advanced when comparison was made with March closing rates as follows: Merinos, greasy1, 7% to 10 per cant.; scoureds, 7% per cent.; crossbreds, fine, VA to 10 per cent.; medium, 7 Va per cent.; coarse, 5 per cent. < I Slipes increased sto 10 per cent. I Greasy crossbred from New Zealand, i "SJC," sold at 89Sd highest to VAA ' average; halfbred, "Barrosa," 17% d, highest, average 15% d; halfbred lamb slipe, "Belfast," ll%d highest, 11 5-Sd average. . r ■ '
