LEAGUE CRICKET
PROFESSIONALS' PERFORMANCES.
New Zealand interest in Lancashire League cricket this season is stimulated by the fact that. W. E. Merritt, I. B. Cromb,-and A. W. Roberts aro taking part. Advices have been received of first-of-soason performances by several of the League professionals, ana in those Cromb, who is playing for East Lancashire, is mentioned as having taken three wickets; . S. J. Hird, who left Australia earlier in tho year ] to take up an. engagement with Ramsbottom, has made a particularly good beginning. In his first > match for Ramsbottom he made 35 and took six wickets for 35 runs, and in his second match he made 14 (run out) and took six for 77. The ex-Australians, A. Fairfax and E. A. McDonald, each met with little success, but A. J. Bichardson did well in making 47 and Liking five" wickets. No mention is made of Merritt (Rishton)- and Roberts (Church). ■
