HALT CALLED
TRAINING TEACHERS
MINISTER'S STATEMENT
NO MORE TILL 1935
An announcement that no more teachers will be trained /in the training colleges before 1935 was made today by the Minister of Education (the Hon. E. Masters) in an interview with a "Post" reporter. Mr. Masters said "that he had investigated very carefully the question of the appointment of probationers in 1934, and regretted that. he: had .to come to the conclusion that it will not be necessary to begin training teachers in the1 training colleges before 1935. "The number of unemployed teachers, together with the Government Statistician's estimate that there will be a considerable decrease in the next three or four years in the number of children between five and fourteen years of age, ■ anakes it evident that, the present'supply is sufficient for the requirements of the service until 1936," said the Minister. . ; "No probationers will- therefore be appointed in 1934; but in 1935 a number of students will be admitted to the training colleges to. meet the requirements of the schools from the beginning of 1937.":
