PROBATION GRANTED
SPECIAL COURSE TAKEN
Twelve months' probation was granted in the Supreme Court today to Henry Martin Murphy, aged 24, whose case Mr. Justice Blair said on Saturday he was worried about and would take the weekend to ' think ovei\ Murphy had been found guilty, with a. very strong recommendation to mercy, on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge. Mr. A. J. Mazengarb, making a strong plea on behalf of the accused, emphasised that the case was not the ordinary case of its kind. Today, his Honour said he' agreed there were special features in the case, indicating that a special course should be taken, particularly as the accused had been virtually his own accuser. Although Murphy had committed 'wrong to the girl, his Honour said he would admit him to probation for twelve months, but he would have to pay the costs of the prosecution, £16 0s 9d.
