CELEBRATION PROGRAMME

YESTERDAY'S PARADE

Marching via the Basin Reserve and Nairn1 Street respectively the Hoys' Brigade and its junior reserve, the Life Boyi, attended divine service yesterday at th« Vivian Street Baptist Church. The boys maintained their usual high standard of marching, and the parade presented » very fine sight as. it proceeded to and from the church. With two foundation stones, religion and discipline, Sir . William . Alexander Smith commenced'^ to build up this world" wide movement fifty years ago in Glasgow; and today it is the strongest religious ' movement for boys in the world. With emphasis upon moral training and the inculcation of habits of discipline and self-control, and always with the great object of the brigade' in view, "the advancement of Christ's kingdom among boys," the Boys' Brigade seeks to taks *■' everything which' enters into healthy bby; life, and to bring it under Christian influence. . All battalions at Home are making ■pecial efforts of gome kind or other, and these will take the form of reviews, displays, pageants, and massed churclt '.parades. In Edinburgh, Leith, Liverpool, Northampton, and Sheffield striking pageants are being organised. In each of < these large numbers of boys will participate, and the theme in all cases will be the progress of youth and the part played by the Boys' Brigade in the religious and general training of'the boys. The main celebrations will of course b« in the birthplace of ■ the ..', movement, Glasgow. Boys' Brigade Jubilee Weekwill commence in that city on Sunday, September 3, when every one of Glasgow's 253 companies will parade at the set-vie* in the church with which it <is connected. The ex-members of each will take part with the company in these services. \ During the following days there will b« i a very full programme of .open-air dis-' plays and special events till, on tha: Friday morning, interest Will be intensified by the arrival of the first contingent! of officers 'and boys from other places. This review will gufl pass anything of the kind yet held, a* all battalions and companies which can travel to Glasgow and return the «amo day are expected to take part. It is anticipated that the review will approach, 20,000 in number^. On Sunday afternoon the Brigade Council, the visiting boys (who will be encamped near the city, and who arc expected to number between 4000 and 5000), the Glasgow Battalion, exmembers, and the general public will unite in a great act of worship1 at the conventicle, which will be held in the immense arena bf Hampden' Park. > The conclusion of the activities of th» i weekend will be'1 a devotional meeting for" I officers, held in the Barony Church of j Glasgow on Sunday evening. Prior to th«: service, -officers will have -an opportunity of visiting the city's ancient cathedral and of viewing the memorial tablet to Sir William A. Smith. ' • The close of the jubilee year will' b« marked in the centre of the Empire, on October 4 (the actual date of the founding, of the movement), by a great thanksgiving service in St, Paul's Cathedral, and a vast concourse' of boys, old and new, many passed now into manhood, will take part.
