ANNUAL NOVICE RACES

Twelve runners, who were started by Mr.* AY. .Whelan, took part in the annual j maiden handicap, of the Wellington Club , from the Miramar train terminus on Saturday afternoon., Soon after the start Hoy moved to.the fore, and took the lead ■from Raven, the limit man, Thomas being in. close attendance.'These positions wire | ■maintained all the way .to. .Am Road, 'where Thomas came to. light, with a determined effort; and. just headed Raven tor see'ond place. Clarke, 2; and J, Bezar, 3. . - BROOKLYN CLUB. ■■The Brooklyn Harrier 'Club held its weekly run from..St..'Matthew's Hall, ■Brooklyn. A good muster 6£ thirty-seven runners, in' three packs', followed a sisrnile trail, of' a'splendidly varied nature, laid' by A. Naulls and A. Sliaw. Leaving the hall, the. trail erpssed Brooklyn Road to cover some of the roads .in the higher part of Brooklyn. Central Park was reached, via Laura Avenue, and Brooklyn Road was again crossed lower down the feill. .Skirting Prince of Wales' Park and the Winter Show Buildings, the trail followed the base of the hills to Berhampore golf-links, where it turned uphill* to ■ the ridge! eastward of Hap.py Valley.' The fast pack, led by D. Pedefson and D. Sinclair, picked up the, others about a. mile 'from home, and' the remaining distance 'was . covered at a, fast go-as-you-please pace. ;, •■ • ".: - :'.'■■■'• , iC. '.'■• The weekly:run of the Presbyterian, Har■rier Club was held- from Wadestqwn, and "■34 runners followed a stiff six-mile trail 14id by 37 Birodie arid T. Moncrieff. There Tvere three packs; under C. Seelye, D. Morrison," and R; D.- Moore. Upon leaving the church - the paper led • down Wilton .Ttoad. and round Blackbridge Road to Kgaio. Continuing through Ngaio to Khandallah and'past' the Onslow Recreation. Ground, it led over the hill and down a; steep descent to Eaiwarra football ground and. the; Hutt Road, which was followed until'the trail led up Sar Street »nd. Barnard .Street t'6 home. I Most of the members are beginning to Rhow form, -and- it will soon be necessary ,to form ,a.n. extra-fast pack.- C. Cairns established a definite lead ,coming, down the hill, to Broadway. .After Seatoun tunnel Was passed, little change took place in the positions of the leaders. D. Scottish/Harrier ■ Club held its •annual novice race of 2% miles, at Mirairiar. _ Twenty- runners faced the starter. Starting.from-'the Miramar -tennis courts tile-course led across the glen to the back of -the oil works,: down Tauhinu Road along Miramar Avenue, -up Para Street, and then back to the starting point. Before half the distance -'was' covered Riddington, Herricli, Treloar, -and McDonald were to the" fore." Coming into .Miramar Avenue,' Riddington held a substantial ]cad from Herrick and Treloar. At this etiage McDonald dropped back,arid allowed- Smith, and Hagen to come up, but the front markers had .the pace on and itf was. evident that the scratch man, McLeod, lying about eighth', would have to miove up a. good;deal' to• win fastest time honours.
