LONDON MEAT PRICES
GOOD TRADE IN LAMB
The New Zealand Meat , Producers' Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated May 5, advising approximate average prices realised for the week in Sinithfield market and London stores (prices for the "week ended April 28 shown in parentheses), as follows:—"New Zealand sheep—Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 48/56, 3 5-8 d (3%d), 57/64/ 3%d (3%d), 65/72, 3d (3%d); North Island, 48/56, 3Vfed' (3 5-8 d), 57/64, 3 l-8d (3 3-8 d), 63/72, 3d (3%d); ewes, 48/ under, 3%d (3%d), 48/64, 3d (3d), 65/72, 2 5-8 d (2%d) New Zealand lambs, Canterbury, 36/ under, 5%d (5%d), 37/42, 4%d (4%d), 43/50, 4%d (4%d); second quality, average 32 5 3-8 d (5%d); other South Island brands, 36/ under, 5%d (5%d), 37/42, 4%d (4%d). 43/50, 4%d (4V£d). Selected North Island brands, including Downs, 36/ under, 5 7-8 d(5 7-Bd),. 37/42, 4%d (4%d), 43/50, 4%d (4ted); second quality, average 32, 5 3-8 d (5%c1). Other North Island brands, first quality, 36/ under, 5%d (5%d), 37/42, 4 5-8 d (4 5-8 d); second quality, average 32, 5Ud (5 3-8 d). Australian lambs—Victorian,'first quality, 36/ under, 5%d (5%d), 37/42, & 3-8 d (4 3-8 d). Argentine lamb, first quality, 30/«ndor, n\i<\ (3%d), 37/42, 4 5-8 d (4%d). New Zealand beef, os fores, 2 l-8d (2%d), hinds 2%d (2 7-8 d); cow, not quoted. Argentine chilled beef, ox fores 3%d (3 l-8d), hinds 4 7-8 d (4%d). Australian frozen beef, ox crops, over 100 2 3-8 d (2%d), ox hinds, over 160 2 7-8 d (3d). New Zealand prime porker pips, 60/80, 4%cl (4 7-8 d), 81/100, 4%d (4 3-8 d). 101/120, 4 l-8d -(iVid). New Zealand baeoner pigs, 120/160, 4%d. New Zealand frozen veal, not quoted. "Lamb market: Meeting with good trade with prices second quality slightly easier. All other descriptions steady. Mutton market:' Wethers again easier with trade slow. Ewes, heavyweight weaker, others remain steadj-. Beef market: Poor demand for frozen beef owing to large supplies of Argentine chilled beef.
