SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS.
The last of a long series of intense westerly depressions crossed the Dominion during the week-end. ■ Barometers fell as low as 29.ia inches yesterday in the far south, but since last night they have risen steadily In that area. Although places on the east coast and about Cook Strait experienced fair weather for the most part, conditions generally were unsettled and showery with stron? winds between west and south-west prevailing. Since last night south-west gales have blown at places, especially In the far north and south, and along the east coast of the South Island, and heavy rain, has occurred in districts with a westerly aspect and in the interior of the North Island. Various stations have reported hail showers, and there has been a considerable amount of snowfall on the South Island ranges. At 9 a.m. today It was still fine and pleasant in the immediate vicinity of Cook Strait, and thence northwards to East Cape, but otherwise unsettled, sqnally conditions were prevailing.
