SEAMEN'S STRIKE
A REPORTED DECISION
It was reported this afternoon tha. as tlie result of a meeting of membcri of the" Seamen'a Union, today, seamen will refuse to take ships out of port tonight. This action is, it is »aidi prompted by dissatisfaction among seaman with the existing award governing wagC9. The meeting today, it is under* stood, passed a vote of no confidence in tho executive of the union, who wer» given power to act in the question of wages. Subsequent action ' will, it is understood, be determined by the re* suits eZ bailots at Auckland and Dun<ylin on the question of vages. The president of the Seamen 's Union (Mr. il. P. Walsh) stated in response to a queetion by a "Post" reporter that a meeting of seamen was held today t but ho knew nothing of the Tesult ,of
it. Tho secretary of the Seamen's Unio» .(Mr. F. Newfield) also staged that he had heard nothing at all about it, and an official of tho Marine Cooks' and Stewards' Union stated that he had heRTd nothing at all. There is a good volume of shipping in port. ! i'
