TARANAKI HARBOURS
ONE CONTROL SUGGESTED
(By Telegraph.—!**** Association.) NEW. PLYMOUTH, May 1. The appointment of a commission to investigate the advisability of amalgamating the five_harbour boards of Taranaki—New Plymouth, Patca, Waitara, llokau, and Opunake—is being sought by the Taranaki County Council. Tho chief aims of the proposal arc consolidation of all loans and a uniform basis of rating over the whole province. The New Plymouth Harbour rate recently imposed bears particularly on the small inner area, and the council considers this a good opportunity for the Government to give effect to its promise to investigate local body control with a view to amalgamation.
