BIGGER VOTE WANTED

HIGHWAYS DETERIORATION

The slippery and dangerous state of bitumen roads in the city, and.of thosa between Wellington and Levin, was commented on by several members of the' Wellington Automobile Club at a meeting of the executive last night. The roads committee expressed concern at tho deterioration^ of the- arterial highways. ''Evidence of this," said Mr. D. G. Hamilton, "is unfortunately not confined to our : own district. It is, of , course, brought about by the diversion > of funds from the, Main Highways Account. The committee is of the opinion that a further resolntiom should go forward to the Government through the North Island' Motor Union draw* ing attention to the matter, with a request that the vote for main highway; purposes should be substantially increased so that the serious 'deterioration should be arrested without further delay and before physical collapse of some of our arterial highways takes place." The suggestion of the roads com* mittce was adopted.
