WAIRARAPA ACTIVITIES
The Masterton Harrier Club's season was declared open. officially on Saturday by Mrs. G. Shaw. The Kiateri Club was invited to attend and was represented by fourteen members. A 'totalof 54 runners lined up to be started off by Mr. C. Wil-' lis The run was in the nature of a friendly outing over a distance of about two miles, with a spirited run-in over the last 600 yards. After the run tea was served by the ladies', committee in the Masonic Hall. During the afternoon, in speeches made by officials of the two clubs, .remarks were made regarding the promising outlook for the coming season, and also in regard to the good feeling and keen rivalry, existing between the two clubs. ' „ • > ■Mr. J. Bradbury has given a cup lor competition between local clubs.
HUTT VALLEY CLUB
The Hutt Valley harriers held their run on Saturday from Hutt Park, thirty members attending. A trail of about six miles was laid by A. Clark and A. Henderson, assisted by ; the colts, T. Walker and G. Jones. The course taken was one lap of the championship course as far as the railway workshops, then through Elizabeth Street to the stopbank and across the Hutt River, vial the railway bridge to Gear Island. A circuit was.then: made of the Shandon golf links, to the Pipe Bridge arid back to the park., A handicap run-in over 400 yards war held, M. Patterson being the winner, with Millman second, and Porter third. Next Saturday the club's run will be from Hutt Park club room i» preparation for the novice race; to be held on May 13.
"The Post's" Otaki correspondent reports that a fire at Te Horo on Saturday destroyed the seven-roomed residence of Mr. Miekle. Some of the contents were saved.
