PARKER VERY STEADY

J. E. Parker (Wellington), who headed the qualifying list with 77, 78 —155, is right back ou his ganio as a golfer, though he finds time for other sports in the summer,' and played most consistently throughout. W. G. Fisher, the secretary of the' Hutt, Club, who is one of the deadliest putters in his club, ;iiid plays a very nioe long game, was net at all at his best against Parker, who had his only large margined win, ."> and 4, against him. Parker went out in 38 against E. S. Toogood (,WelHiigton) in the second round, but, after fuogood madu, a luess of. the seventh, was only square at $he turn, Toogood .putting on six fuurs in a row. The i game w!as all square at the fifteenth. Parker took Longuet to the nineteenth ; the following morning. This was a match which provided the best golf of ' the touracy, and the most interesting match, both returning 74's. NOTES ON PLAYERS. .T. V. Hornabrook (Mastcrton), thye holder, was not at his best. There .was not the snap and certainty in his long game that won him the title, and when loss of direction through tho fairways was not troubling him his putter let him down. Two steady rounds of 78 gave him second place on tho qualifying list, but, though ho had an easy victory over D. M. Young, he went down to Cook after a generally unconvincing display. A. D. S. Duncan, the Wellington veteran, played some good golf in patches, but wa's not consistent,^ either on fairways or greens, and after putting out H. K. Adamson, who was 2 up on him at the turn, 2 and 1, and J. W. Ward 5 and 4, went down to W. K. Cook (Hutt).
