WRESTLING NEWS

Tlie first four men whom the NewZealand Wrestling Union expects are now on their -way to the Dominion, Dr. Len Hall, Jack Patterson, "WMskers" Blake; and "Big Bill" Beth, have recently been appearing- on tie Pacific Coast of America, and from newspaper, accounts of the; bouts in which they have appeared, it would seem that they will provide New; Zealand enthusiasts with plenty of excitement during the coming season.; George Hagen, who has also been mentioned as likely to come to New Zealand later in the season has also been having a successful run of contests. Blake is described as a "very much bewhiskercd gentleman and Beth as "the SoO-pound roly-poly." "Strangler" Lewis, who has won and lost the world's'heavyweight ■wrestling championship more times, than any other so-c4lJe<! champion, has again been deprived of his title-. Jim Browning, who wrestled a series of bonts- with John Pesejt in Australia some years ago, defeated him twice recently, and Browning now claims the title along with Jim Londos and Don George. The last-named camo into the running when bo boat Henri Dc Clane incidentally breaking the French-Canadian*3 shoulder blade in doing so. The annual' meeting of the Wellington Wrestling Association is to be held on Friday, April 28, and the annual meeting- of the Dominion of New Zealand; Wrestling Union will take place on May 2. A number of remits have been forwarded to the headquarters of the union for discussion at the annual meeting, and it appears that several of the associations are desirous of doing away with rounds in profession*! boots and giving the American system of a time-limit bout a trial. Under this system the contestants usually wrestle for two hours for the bests two out of three falls, a five-minute interval being allowed after each fall. Just as now, of course, if one man gets two falls in quick succession that is the end of that night's sport. ,
