PIANOFORTE RECITAL

last night at the Bristol Piano Salon, M'ss Frances Revere, F.T.C.L., L.A.B. ot ieilding, made her appearance in Wellington betore a large and enthusiastic audience.Miss Revere; a young pianist who lias had a distinguished academic career under the tuition of Miss Imelda Fama a local teacher, presented a most ambitious programme of formidable pianoforte compositions from the works of the great masters. Aside from the professional virtuosi who visit the Dominion from time to time, Miss Revere is one of the most talented young artists heard in Wellington for several years. Her playing-is crisp and fresh, and she displays power and an expansive technique that enables her ■to interpret the most intricate works with astonishing facility. This, was shown in the brilliant performance of Balakirev's "Islamey," an Oriental fantasy, a prodigious composition seldom heard because of its extreme difficulties. Miss Reveres performance of this impressive work aroused the audience to enthusiasm. Miss Revere responded with Chafin's "Rush Hour* in Hong Kong." The Bach-Liszt organ prelude and Fugue in A Minor; Chopin's Sonata in B Minor; and Glazounov's "Theme et Variations". were other outstanding performances, particularly the beautiful Largo and Finale movements of the Sonata, which v/ere admirably played. Schumann's "Toccata," Ravel's "Sonatine," the Paganini-Liszt "Etude," and Debussy's "Poissons dor" were all pleasingly performed and much appreciated. '-•
