AIR SCHOLARSHIP

AMENDED AWAED

MISS POWER-COLLINS WINS

"The Evening Post" has been asked by the "Wellington Aero Club to publish the following official announcement regarding the winner of the first section of "The Evening Post" Aviation Scholarship:— "It having been found that the entrant who was originally declared the winner of the first section of the scholarship is unable to satisfy on© of the essential conditions laid down by the club, the scholarship has been awarded to the runner-up, Miss M. Power-Collins, whoso score was only a few points behind that of the originally declared winner. "Miss Power-Collins, who is a real aviation enthusiast, has already commenced her training." The second section of the competition closes this evening. Entries may be posted to reach the office of the Aero Club, Dominion Farmers' Building, tomorrow morning. The competition is open to anyone of British nationality over the age of 17 years, but entrants may not have had previous air tuition. The entry fee is fil, and the winner will be given the full training for the "A" grade pilot's licence, and will compete with Miss Power-Collins for the Kingsford Smith Cup. So successful has "The Evening Post" Aviation Scholarship proved that similar schemes are likely to be launched in other centres, and already the secretary of the Aero Club (Mr. A. W. Nisbet) has received requests for detailed information as to the running of the competition from Auckland, New Plymouth, Hastings, Masterton, and Dunedin. Inquiries have been, made of the Aero Club whether it is proposed to, run a third section of the scholarship in Wellington. This is iiot proposed, for the competition has already been extended far beyond the original plans in order to give full opportunity to as many young people as possible. Though no entries will be accepted later than by tomorrow's mail, or this evening at the office or aerodrome, it is probable that the testing of competitors will extend over the next two weeks.
