Winds.—Variable over the South Island ; light to moderate south-easterlies from Cook Strait' northwards. Barometer.—Little movement. g eas ,—Considerable southerly swell north of Knikoura; otherwise smooth to moderate seas. Weather.—Fair to fine in most districts, with cool to moderate temperatures, but showers still likely on the east coast and in the far north of the North Island. : ~
Improvements made during the past month to the Korokoro water supply have resulted in an increased pressure for foe-fighting purposes in certain areas that were previously well enough served for'domestic Use but not for fire-fighting. The improvement has been effected by extending the area supplied by the higher reservoir to a lower point on the Korokoro road.
