PRESENT SELLING SYSTEM
The chairman (Mr. F. H. Tout, M.L.C.j ■was opposed to the appointment of any executive, because the inquiry, committee had considered the present system o£ wool selling was substantially ■ sound. The wool growers had consistently opposed any form of control or fixation of prices. The committee had concluded that,' in view of the fact that the price of wool did not meet the cost of production, the present critical position warranted';the creation of special executive machinery -..for speedy, action if the! state of the market •warranted it.' Once the'executive was appointed, .however, the ; growers would have no control'over .it., >. ■ "The wooV growers haye done so wonderfully well for Australia and for this great Empire," said.Mr. Tout, "that lam afraid 'to take the 'control of the industry-away, from them and hand it to the Government." ■ ' •
