MR. T. B. DWAN
The death occurred at an early hour tliis morning, in a private hospital, of Mr. Thomas Beaumont Dwan. • . . v Mr. Dwan was born at. Ihglewood, .Victoria, in 1861, and came to Now Zealand with his parents at the age of four years. His family settled in Charleston, on the West Coast, which at that time was a prosperous gold--mining town. His early days were spent in newspaper "work, and afterwards, on coming to Wellington, was a cadet in the Post and Telegraph Department. In 1877 ho went into his father's auctioneering and land agency business. In 1879, with his brother, Mr. Lamartine Dwan,'he founded the well-known firm of Dwan Bros. The late Mr. Dwan was one of Wellington's most prominent business men. He possessed a striking personality, and had a very largo-number.of friends in both Australia and New Zealand. For many years he was a Justice of the Peace. Mr. Dwan's knowledge of land, values was thought so highly of by the authorities that he acted in the capacity of valuer for the Government and the City in many important compensation cases. For some, years he represented the Government and the Wellington City Council on the Assessment Court. For several years Mr. Dwan was a well-known owner and breeder of racehorses in association with his brother. Some of the most successful of his horses were Columbus, Bose of Athens, Sweet Tiperary, Beaumont, arid Thomond. • He- bore his long illness with great fortitude, and continued to take an active interest in affairs until just before his death. ■ Ho is survived by hia wife and brother, Mr, Lamartino Dwan. The funeral will leave the church of St. Mary of the Angels, ' Boulcott Street, at 9.20 ■ o 'clock on Monday morning for tho .Taita Cemetery. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9 o'clock.
