"When it is considered that the gross revenue of the board in 1929 was''£lß3,3Bß, and that in^the year just ended it amounted to £136,538, or a shortage of £46,850, it will be appreciated ■'.-by. members that the board was faced with a most difficult task, to make <ends meet, and while the year closed with a-small surplus of .£BOO, it must not .be overlooked that this .'result was achieved, by .largely curtailing works, involving many dismissals of worthy employees,'.reductionsv in salaries, and other economies," stated the chairman in his: annual .rpport to the Dunedin Harbour Board.
