BERLIN, March 21,

Through the beflagged and garlanded streets of Potsdam, heavilyguarded with troops, President Hindenburg and Herr Hitler, heading a triumphal procession of saloon cars, arrived to inaugurate tha Reichstag. Everywhere were striking slogans composed by Hitler.

Overlooking the vault of Frederick the Great in the Garrison Church, President Hindenburg urged the nation to do everything to assist the Government in its .difficult work. "This place," he said, "reminds us 'of the old Prussia. May the spirit o£ the glorious scene inspire the present generation to unite us in the consciousness of moral rengeratioa for a united, free, and proud Germany."

The speech was broadcast everywhere in every school.

Replying to the President, Herr Hit* ler said that through internal disunion! Germany fell a victim to the dark surroundings of the 1918 revolution, which ended a war which neither the Kaiser; ndr the Government wanted, but whieli was a fight for Germany's freedom and right to live. Since then a succession of crises had unhinged the nation. Tha world was not the richer or happier by| the political and economic breakdown oil one of its important members, and not until need and misery struck Germany] an inhuman blow did there grow thei longing for a. new revival, a new Reich^ and a new life.

UNIQUE EEVTVAI.:

"From'the crazy theqry of perpetual victors and vanquished," he declared,, "came the madness of reparations, and. the collapse in world economy from' which arose the young Germany which you, Field-Marshal, have entrusted with the leadership of the Reich. Tha people have confirmed your decision. Thus a unique revival has restored national honour within a few weeks^ consummating a union, between omjgreatness and strength today. The new Reichstag proclaims our uni shakeable will to complete the great work of reorganisation. It demands that all parties shall rise above doctrinaire faction and subordinate themselves to the iron necessity which our need imposes.

"We want to be sincere friends ;of peace, healing the wounds of war from which the world suffers."

The ceremony was of a quasi-military; character. Generals and admirals won* their old uniforms, while 'Nazi deputies ana the Brown Shirts, all in uniforms packed the church. The Socialists and Communists were absent.

President Hindenburg, before taking Ins seat, faced the Imperial box ojl cupied by the ex-Crown Prince, .and saluted with his baton.
