£5000 DEFICIT
PALMERSTON HOSPITAL
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
That there would probably be a deficit of £5000 on the year's working was the information given ,to the Palmerston North Hospital Board by the managing secretary (Mr. A. J. Phillipps) yesterday.-
The position at the- end of the year, he told the meeting, was now fairly clear. On the charitable aid estimate the board would be about £1500 down at the. end of the year, while on the maintenance of patients in other institutions there would probably be another £1500 short. In other items on the maintenance side the board would come out fairly right.
On patients' payments the board would be £1500 to £1600 below the estimate. Other items, on the receipts side would be fairly right, except that subsidies on voluntar^rontributions and bequests would be £$>* short.
Tlio most satisfactory feature was that hospital maintenance for the year would be withiii the estimate. At the beginning of the year the board had a deficit of £3700, and he thought'that the board should estimate for another deficit, nest year.
