SOUTHERLY CHANGE DUE

The rather vigorous depression which crossed New Zealand this morning is the factor whicn causes the weather forecast issued at" noon today to be the reverse of pleasing to those who wanted fine weather for the sake of the visiting English .cricketers. The rain which has already fallen and that which is promised will, however, be welcomed by the farmer. The forecast promises dull and wet weather with general rains and some heavy falls. North of Otago winds will be northerly at first, strong to gale force, but a general change to southeflies working up from the south will be in evidence within the- next twenty-four hours. Temperatures will be mild at first, but cooler weather may be expected tomorrow when the southerly change has taken place. The depression has caused winds to remain chiefly northerly.in direction and moderate .to strong in force. Dull warm, and humid weather has prevailed for the most part, and rain has fallen at timesoyer practically all parts of the country, except along the East Coast south of East Cape.*So far, falls have been mostly light, but Puyseguf Point has had a fall of 268 points. In ..Auckland, the weather yesterday was dull and misty, with a light northeasterly wind. Some light rain fell there last night.

Although a strong north-westerly wind prevailed all day in Wellington and clouds were threatening, over seven hours of bright sunshine were recorded Ram, however, began to fall at 4 a.m today, and up to 9 a.m. 24 points had been recorded at Kelbjirn and seven in Lower Hutt.

Chnstchurch had a hot and sunny day yesterday, with very little wind Conditions there at 9 a.m. today were overcast.

Fine and bright weather prevailed in Dunedin yesterday. There was very little wind most of the day, but lato iii the afternoon a fresh Eouth-wosterh-sprang up.
