A SUCCESSFUL SEASON

THE ANNUAL MEETING

About eighty meinbere of the Wellington Referees' Association attended the annual meeting last night, over which Mr. D. Calcinai presided. Seven new members were nominated.

Oh the recommendation of the 'committee it was decided that, after the examination of members for senior status, the Classification Committee shall have power to select any number of candidates whom they consider suitable for a practical test; thai the examination papers shall be returned to the candidate showing where mistakes have been made; and that rule 12 be altered to allow a candidate to be tested in any approved game from senior B or junior to fourth- grade.

"Although the number of games increased, the demand for official referees was met, and it is pleasing to note that very few games were played without the appointed official in control," stated the annual report. According to the report, the year had been more successful than many previous years, particularly in regard to membership and attendance at meetings. ' The appointments during the season totalled 1600, an increase of about 110 over the previous season. The membership constituted a record, the season starting with 101 on the active list, and finishing with 147. High' praise was due to tlie appointment board for its work. The year closed with a credit balance of 8s sd.

The election o£ officers resulted:—President, Mr. D. Calcinai; vice-president, Mr. A. C. Kitto; committee, Messrs. A. de Clifton, R. E. J. Martin, A. R. MorrisJ, A. J. Wilson, and J. Moffitt' (past-presi-dents) ; appointment board, Messrs. J. Francis, H. Leith, and J. Moffitt; classification committee, Messrs. G. 'Bradley, J. Francis, A. C. Kitto, and A. Smart; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. O'Sullivan; hon. auditor, Mr. A. \V.- O. Travers; delegate to the New Zealand Rugby referees' conference, Mr. D. Calcinai. Mr. G. Bradley was appointed to conduct, the instruction class with any other senior members who can be obtained during the season.
