COMPOUND PENALTY
A man who has been convicted of murder and ' sentenced to death in India must first serve one year's imprisonment and pay a fine, or alterna- ■ tively spend three further months in -goal, before being hanged, states the London "Daily Telegraph." ' This is the amazing sentence which has been made possible by the laws of Hyderabad State. The High Court has con-; firmed the sentence, but a judicial com-' mittee is considering its modification "in order to afford the soul of the condemned man an easy and untroubled exit from its earthly tenement."
