. ;After- considering detailed reports concerning flood damage on the West Coast, showing that; highways in -the vicinity :oi the- Otira Gorge had been severely damaged,, and that some."of the washouts were sufficient to cause " blockage of traffic, the Mam' Highways Board decided yesterday-afternoon to authorise funds for restoration work. The .authorisation includes the Arthur's Pass road, which has been closed for some weeks, and which will be opened again as soon as necessary repairs can be effected. '.
..It was decided in regard to applications for sealing work. in the Wellington district that nothing could be done owing to shortage of funds, the money available being required for iimmediate maintenance work. ■ , . .'
