PUBLIC SERVICE SPORTS
The athletics section of the Public Service inter-departmental sports tournament is being held this afternoon at the Basin Reserve in brilliant weather. Competition is for- the Ward Challenge trophy, this year-bein;; the, first time a tournament lias-boon held for this trophy since 1924, when- the Post and Telegraph Department won it. ' , The Post and Telegraph Department were leading at the beginning of today's sports events with 24 points, and the Government Insurarice- \ aluation -Departments team was second with 21 points. There were 350 entrants for the events, and ten heats were required to run off the 100 yards sprint. There was a large attendance, and events were run off expeditiously. _ The following are the results up to. time of going to press:—

One Mile Handicap.—X. Y. Andrews (■Railway). 03yds, 1; T>. Pedersen (P. awl T:). 17yds, 2: D. Vicrg;u-s (Agriculture), 50yds; 3. Time, 4min 3S 2-osee. Fifty-six starters. Andrews made a brilliant sprint over the final hundred yards and threw himself at the tape to win by inches.
