TAXI DRIVER FINED
REFUSED POLICE REQUEST

AUCKLAND, This Day
When on duty at the Takapuna racecourse on January 30 a constable arrested two men for fighting. He took them to the road and requested a taxi driver to take him and them to Auckland. Tho taxi driver refused, and today he was charged with failing to assist the constable and failing to drive to a place as directed by a constable. The defence contended, tKat the taxidriver, Robert Hustler, had offered to take the constable and prisoners to the Devonport Ferry Wharf, and that it was unreasonable to expect him to leave the stand and drive to the city.
The Magistrate said it was a very serious matter. A crowd had gathered round a constable with troublesome prisoners, and it was a bit of impudence on the defendant's part to refuse the request.
The defendant was fined £5,
