IN THE STEEETS

A BULL AT LARGE

Many young children and a. policeman had narrow escapes from being gored to death by a mad boll which today careered for nearly two hours through crowded streets of Salford, says the "Daily Telegraph."

The runaway bull, ono of a herd of cattle, was being taken to the market. It, escaped from its drover in Dawson Street, and, careering up Begent Road, it scattered crowds of pedestrians. Threading its way through a maze of side streets, it entered Ordsall Park, which was full of playing children. The park was cleared save for a number of police and drovers, who confronted the bull with lassoes, and blocked the main entrance with a commandeered motor-lorry. Before all tho exits could be barred, however, the bull found a, way out of the park and raced up Traftord Road at a timo when hundreds of children were leaving school.

It turned down Howard Street, with a largo crowd in pursuit and many fleeing pedestrians in front.

The hero of tho episode was P.C. Leresche, who flung his arms round the maddened animal's neck. He was carried some distance spread-eagled over the bull's head, and succeeded in countering every attempt of the" bull to dislodge him by dashing him against the pavement. The beast was at last brought to a: standstill.
