Vigorous cross-currents of fresh buy* ing and profit-taking Tcsultcd in * moderate boost to prices in Thursday* stock market trading " quietened in the afternoon changes,, while narrow; gains predominated iv ttie late dealt ing. ,
The pound advanced 1 3-8 cents to 3.47 3-8 dollars. The Canadian dollar; was up 7-8 cent to 85 .cents.
Violent advances, ranging from 3.59" dollars to 5 dollars a bale, greeted tha resumption of trading in cotton ' exchange prices reduced by .profit-taking. The final gains were 2 dollars 55 cents to 3 dollars. ■ - ■ '
