MEDICAL CONFERENCE
A DIFFICULT YEAR
In the conrse of a brief impromptu address at the annual meeting of the New_ Zealand branch, of the British Medical Association yesterday, afternoon, the 'incoming president, Dr. G. Home, of New Plymouth, after thanking members for his election, made reference to the difficult and anxious times in which, the medical profession, along iwith the rest of the community, were now involved. It looked, he said, as though they would require some substantial standpoint so that the people could do something to resist a crash if it came. AYe must in some measure at least be prepared for it, not merely individually, but as a community. Dr. Home said that- although it did not specially relate to the work of the medical profession, ho might perhaps make reference to a public movement with which a member of the profession was concerned. Dr. E. Campbell Begg's work, in connection with the New Zealand Legion, was being conducted with great energy and ability in an effort to create something reliable amid domestic unrest and uncertainty
The year would be a difficult ana controversial one, said Dr. Home, in medico- | political spheres, and lie would be grateful during his term of office for the support-oLthe profession.
