WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY

The "Wellington .Presbytery met on Tuesday night at St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. W. R. Milne, Moderator, presiding. ■ Gratification iras expressed at the progress made by the Island Bay Presbyterian Church despite the hardness of the times. The report of the Moderator (the Rev. R. Inglis) was most optimistic, and Presbytery acceded to the request of the congregation that it should be raised to the status of a self-sustaining charge with full right of call. Good progress was also Teported from Plimmerton, where Mr. L. Rothwell, 8.A., has worked hard during the summer vacation, jind from Roseneath, from, which Mr. Kenneth Evans was recently moved after a suceessfnl period of service. ; The General Assembly during its recent meetings in Wanganui appointed 4pril 2 as a special day of prayer in. connection with the serious distress of the country and of the' world at large. General interest and sympathy was expressed at the terms in which the Anglican Primate, t)r. Avprill, had called members of his communion to prayer on the same day, and the hope was expressed that all the Churches would fall into line with this action ip the world's present hour , of emergency. ■ . It was reported by the Rev. A. 'A. Armstrong that Scots College had an increased roll number, and that a fine school spirit -was still being maintained under the principal, Mr. J. R. Suteliffe. The' Rev. D. M. Hereus had been appointed chaplain' for the current year, and' had entered on his duties.
