RADIO EMERGENCY CORPS

The Taranaki section of the Eadio Emergency Corps proved that the months of preparation have placed the scheme on a working basis by successfully transmitting signals from the summit of Mt. Egmont to base stations at New Plymouth, Hawera, and Stratford last weekend. The reoeption was fi]eHr, a tribute to the work of the sec frion and to the practical efficiency of thoir apparatus (says the "Taranaki Herald")- Two stations, one a transmitting station and the other an intermediate Tolay station, were established on the mountain itself, at tho summit (8260 ft) and at the Stratford Plateau (4000 ft). A. portable transmitter weighing about 151b was taken to the summit, and a somewhat similar instrument was placed in position at the plateau. The signals cams from the summit (believed to be the greatest altitude yet operated' in New Zealand for wireless signals) to the base stations with great clarity, and operators at New Plymouth, Hawera, and Stratford were able to receive ' messages direct.
