PASSES FOR UNEMPLOYED
The M.C.C. team and its management have heartily concurred with the suggestion of the Kcw- Zealand Cricket. Council that a number of passes to the match against the Wellington representatives at tho Basin Reserve next Tuesday and AVednesday should uo allocated to relief workers. Mr. A. Varney, secretary of the Wellington Association, states that the passes will be sent by the New Zealand Council to the Unemployment Bureau, and Mr. Kinsman, head of that Department, has agreed to arrange for their distribution.
Applications for these tickets have already been received from relief workers by officials of both the Labour Department and the Wellington .Cricket Association who desire it to be made Iplain that no application is necessary, Mr. Kinsman having arranged for the distribution of the passes, which is to be carried out through the certifying officers in Wellington, Petone, Lower Hutt, Johnsonville, and Eastbourne. The- Returned Soldiers' Association will deal with tho passes allocated to the unemployed members of that organisation. OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS. The M.O.C. team is to be welcomed by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and members of Cabinet at Parliament Buildings at 11 a.m. on Monday, the day of its arrival from Sydney by tho Mcunganui. Mr. Forbes will be tJie principal speaker. A civic reception will be' accorded to the team in the Town Hall at 12.15 pjn. the same day. The Mayor (Mr. T. C. A: Hislop), on behalf of'the City Council and citizens of Wellington, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates,'representing tho Government, and a member of the Now Zealand Cricket Council will be the principal speakers. Arrangements have been made for a dinner to be given to the Yorkshire members of the team in the. Dominion Farmers' Institute on Monday night.
Special arrangements have been made to accommodate Press representatives at the match, and they will occupy two front rows of the pavilion. Information has been received that at leasr four representatives of English groups of newspapers, including Qaptain E W. Ballantyno, who toured New Zealand with A. H. Gilligan's team in 1929-30, will bo reporting the match for their respective newspapers. Tne scoring box on the eastern side of the ground will be used for the telegraph board scorer and attendants.
