TAX ON ART UNIONS
FOR RELIEF OF DISTRESS
URGED BY LOCAL BODIES
. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHUKCH, March 14. A conference of representatives of local bodies, convened by' the Mayor of Christchureh, was held today to discuss concerted action for the relief of unemployment.
The conference decided to recommend to local bodies that they should undertake the organisation of appeals for money and goods in their district, and also to recommend to the Government that there should be a tax of not less than 50 per cent, on art union proceeds togo to the relief of distress.
When these recommendations have been discussed by the local bodies reports will be made to another conference in three weeks.
