CHANGEABLE WEATHER
WITH SOME SHOWERS
The weather forecast is for strong westerly winds, backing later in places to south-west, and decreasing somewhat. The weather should still remain fair and warm for the most part in eastern districts ana in the far north. Elsewhere it will be changeable with showers at times; some heavy falls are likely in the high levels. Another of a series of vigorous westerly depressions is crossing the Dominion. Strong north-west to westerly wiafls have prevailed, gale force being Reached' occasionally at manyplaces. Bain has been fairly general over the South Island, except in the extremo north-east, most of which appears to have been in. association with' thunder storms, which have been unusually widespread ,on the West Coast and in Upper Canterbury and to tho south.. Heavy raiiis have been experienced in the central portions of the South Island, Arthur's Pass reporting 3.70 inches. The rivers are again high on the West Coast. OtherAviso the weather has been warm, and for the most part fair to fine. Auckland has continued to experience, fine weather, tfiough a squally strong northerly wind blew. Yesterday was fine and warm at Wellington. During tho night the wind increased somewhat, gale force being reached* frequently. The force of tho maximum gust was 54 miles an hour at 6.45 a.m.. This morning the weather was overcast and threatening, with a light drizzlo at times. At Christchurch yesterday it was hot ; and sunny, with a strong northwest wind, but a light shower fell this morning. Dunedin had rain early yesterday, and again during last night and this ■morning, but today was mainly fine; the wind was from the west.
