EASTERN MARKETS

SHIPPING A DRAWBACK

(Special to "The Evening Pbstl") PALMEESTON N., This Day. The question, at... eastern markets came before the executive of. the Dairy Farmers' Union yesterday. Mr. W. 11. Gimblett said he thought tho matter had been approached in the wrong way. It should not be, left to the Government, and he felt that the Dairy_ Produce Board had not been1 spending sufficient money. There was a good market in tho East, and it was monopolised by Australia as far as butter was concerned. The secretary reported that the board had been trying to foster trade'in the East without much success. Shipping was the main drawback, he said. The chairman expressed the opinion that the timo was not opportune at present and that an attempt would cripple the Dominion industry. . Mr. Gimblett doubted the accuracy of the board's statement, adding that an authority who had spent 27 years in India was positive that there was a" profitable market there. Mr. E.. O. Bond, in reviewing the matter, advanced, his opinion that in tho future there was going to be a quota set on-the exports going Home.
