PRIMARY SCHOOLS' YEAR
The annual report of the Wellington -Primary Schools' Amateur Swimming Association states that the association has nad a-successful year, finishing with a greater credit balance than that with which it began. a nS h WMUaI c?? ival was held last March 20 JhL e<,° mVg^B .entered, representing 2gritl in fl^ 1? P™*. the "^St aggregate m the girls' division with 19 points, and Mount Cook and Thorndon tied in the Ws' section with 13 points. Uov the schools' championship Clyde Quay and Kilbirnie were equal with 20 points, mount Look being the runner-up with i» points. Fifteen girls and fourteen boys entered for the N.Z.S.A. -ichoolgiil and schoolboy championships. Monica Williams (Hataitai) won the girls' championship with 16 points and J. Smythe (Roseneath) won the boys championship with 20 points Iwelve-standard certificates were awarded as against seventeen in the previous year these being distributed as follows:—Clyde Quay 5, Hataitai 3, Roseneath. 2, and Kilbirnie 2. ■■ . . Eight schools entered teams for the T. Shield's trophy, which was won by Roseneath. Eight schools also entered for the Mrs. Shield's life-saving trophies, Clyde Quay winning in both boys' and girls' events. • Over 300 elementary certificates were awarded to 21 schools. The association expresses gratification at the work teachers are doing in fostering beginners. Miramar South School was awarded 53 certificates. Mr. H. R. Fisher was educational officer, but his work was hampered by the inability oE the N.Z.S.A. to provide further certificates.
