BOOK THAT OFFENDED

GOVERNOR CRITICISED

COMMENTS; IN IGNORANCE

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, February 16. - The titled authoress, Lady Angela St;Glair Erskine,- whose recent comments on the Governor-of New South Wales, Sir Philip Game, caused something of a sensation, arrived at Auckland by the Rangitiki to spend a holiday in New Zealand. . Lady Angela said that her comments on Sir Philip Game had been niade in ignorance. She had overlooked' the fact that, as King's representative, he should not be criticised as an ordinary individual. "I cannot understand why my book should have given offence in Australia," Lady Angela . said. "I met many Australians in England and France during the war, and-learnt to admire them immensely, but I did not think that possession of thin skins was an Australian characteristic." Lady Angela said her book was chiefly concerned with her impressions of the people of New Zealand. She was genuinely in love with the. Dominion, and from! now on. would probably make an annual trip from England. The varied beauty of the scenery, the excellence of the fishing, and the charm and courtesy constituted a permanent appeal. Lady Angela will leave Auckland shortly for Rqtorua and Taupo on a fishing trip. . 'She is accompanied by the Earl-and Countess of Rosslyn, the Ear], a prominent Scottish peer, being her brother, and the Earl of Wernyss, who is also a relative: The Countess Of Bosslyn intends to visit relatives at j Pleasant Point, .near Tirnaru, and all members of the party hope to gain ex- j perience of New Zealand trout fishing.
