PROFESSOR SAINTSBURY

7 (Received 30th January, ll' a . ri .) LONDON, 29th January.. Tho death is announced of Professor George Saintsbury, the distinguished critic, at the age of 88.

George Saintsbury was one of the most distinguished "figures -in the criticism of the Victorian age and had a career of solid achievement and wide recognition. He was born in 1845 and was educated at King's College School London and^Merton College, Oxford He took his B.A. at Oxford in'lSoS and spent, six years in Guernsey as senior classical master of Elizabeth College s°the El^Ff 7V 6 W3S h^masfer ?„ i .-= l^ Ecluc,-tional Institute, and m 18/5 he began his literary career as a critic for the "Academy."
