CHANCELLOR RESIGNS
THREE POSSIBILITIES
PRESENTED TO PRESIDENT,
YON. PAPEN CALLED IN
United Press Association—By Electric Tel»» graph—Copyright. (Received 30th January, 1 p.m.) c BERLIN, 29th January.' The Chancellor, General yon Schleicher, presented Presioent Hindenburg with three possibilities:— (1) A Government supported by; a majority in the Reichstag, involving the appointment of Herr Hitler to the Chancellorship. (2) A minority Government resting, on a "broad stream of popular support," under Herr Hitler with, toleration of the Right. (3) A Presidential Cabinet, vested with extraordinary powers. President Hindenburg asked General yon Schleicher to await the assembling of the Reichstag on 31st January, biit General yon Schleicher refused and resigned. Dr. yon Papen, acting on behalf of President Hindenburg, is endeavouring to discover the political possibilities, but he is not ..forming a Cabinet. Discussions between Nazis and Nationalists did not yield a compromise, and the Centre is keeping aloof. ■ Meanwhile the prospect of a yon Papen Cabinet with dictatorial powers is alarming the Republicans.
