WEATHER FORECAST

UNSETTLED AND CHANGEABLE

The weather forecast issued at noon' to-day is for winds varying between south-west and north-west in the southern half of the South Island; otherwise, moderate to strong north, to west winds will prevail. The weather will be unsettled and changeable, with rain at times in most districts, and temperatures will be warm. During,, the week-end a depression on the Tasman Sea was delayed in its eastward movement by an anticyclone to the north-east of the Dominion; and consequently a change to southerly winds has also been delayed. The depression, however, was responsible for fresh to strong north-west winds and 'somewhat unsettlod conditions, although xainfall was confined chiefly to districts with a .. westerly aspect. Since last night the centre of the depression crossed southern New Zealand,' and heavy rain fell in parts of the western and far southern, portions of the South Island, Arthur's Pass having as much as 450 points and Puysegur Point 231 points. This morning, winds were generally northerly and fresh to strong except about Foveaux Strait, where a change to southerli'es had taken place. Temperatures have been warm, particularly in eastern districts. Rain set in locally at midday to-day. . At Auckland fine weather prevailed on both Saturday and Sunday. A light 'southerly wind blew, but changed to north-easterly during Sunday. Wellington experienced a strong north-west wind on both days, with mostly cloudy threatening conditions, although no rain actually fell. In Christchurch the weather was fine but cloudy on Saturday with fresh north-west wind., Sunday "was a dull day, with occasional showers, and at night there was some steady rain. The rainfall .was 13 points. . Changeable weather prevailed at Dunedin, with" intermittent cloud and sunshine;* and showers fell , during Saturday night, and again on Sunday afternoon; the wind was mostly a light northerly.-
