OLD MISSION STEAMER
IN SHIP-BREAKERS* HANDS
(By Telegraph.) -: (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The former Melanesian mission) steamer Southern Cross V is in the hands of shipbreakers at Auckland. Since her last voyage from the New, Hebrides in June last year the vessel has lain at anchor in Auckland Harbour. When the Southern Cross was offered for sale in December six tenders were received, the successful one being that of-a firm of solicitors,^ acting on behalf of the Auckland Shipbreaking Company. Workmen are removing useable metal and fittings. The fate of the hull is not yet settled. The plates, which are Unusually thick,- may be cut up for the metal they contajn. If that-is not done, the hull will be towed outside the 100 fathoms limit and sunk.
