The search for a new ballroom dance —a problem that has been worrying the teachers of dancing for some time—is in progress in London.. Dancing teachers from all over England have gone to the city and seen demonstrations of three dances that arc popular in Franco—the Bxguine, the" Pas'a " Doble, .and .the Rumba. Only the last named is suitable for English' dancers, says the "Daily Mail." The Rumba, of course, is not new, but there have been'characteristics against it. TlJj French Rumba is attractive and impressive. Ono prominent teacher of dancing expressed the opinion that in a few weeks the Rumba will be as popular as was the Charleston. "Already I teach the dance, but it ia not generally popular," he said. "With the steps as demonstrated now, my pupils will be encouraged to go on. In the past they have been discouraged, though recently the old form has become more popular in Mayfair." All the teachers present were busy making notes, and in reply to the question,-'! When are we likely to sec this danco iv public1?" the reply was: "Almost immediately, for ono lesson will allow dancers- to go on the floor and enjoy the dance. All that is now needed are more Rumba tunes from the dance bands." C.W.
