THE ANNUAL MEETING

(From Our Own Correspondent.) NELSON, 19th January. The annual meeting ofAthe Teachers' Bummer School Society, at which the president (Mr. Prank Milner, 'G.M.0., M.A.) presided, passed votea of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr. Dquglas.Tayler, lato Director of Musical Education in New Zealand, and those of Miss S. Wilson, a member of the school. in former years, who was drowned in the North Island

In the course of his address, Mr. Milrier spoke-of the enthusiastic welcome that had been .offered by> Nelson City, the College Board of Governors, and citizens, clubs, and institutions. The Summer School visitors had experienced ,a sequence of golden days and had seen Nelson at its best. He hoped'the school would continue to hold a happy balance between the social and intellectual sides. The work of the school was meant to be. inspirational and he hoped it would lead to a higher culture and make for a background of humanism. He mentioned the special work done by Mr. H. F.-. Allen, secretary of the- local committee, and Mr. J. G>. McKay, who assisted. Their work merited warm gratitude, as did also Mr. Ashbridge's efforts in organising the camp, which he had done ably and efficiently (Applause). The balance-sheet of the last camp at Whangarei was read and adopted, the chairman pointing out that the society was in a fortunate position with a credit balance of £600. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. Duncan Beay. principal of the Training College, Auckland; vice-presidents, Misses Edmed, Hume, Hollinrake, Messrs. Mather, Willmott,'and Robinson (all re-elected): executive committee, Mr. Donaldson (North Auckland), Mr. "Wilson (Taranaki), Mr. Head (Christchurch), Mr. B. T>. Thompson (North Auckland), Miss Mansfield (Auckland), Mr. Goldsbury (Taranaki), Miss Kennedy (Christchurch), Mr. Brown (Otago), Miss Fuller (Hawkes Bay). There was a discussion on the location of the nest school, and it was recommended to the incoming executive that the 1_?34 session be held in Napier. '
