ORANGES WILL BE DEARER
Oranges are not in such groat demand just now as at some seasons of the_ year when there is not much other fruit available, but purchasers are already finding that the fruit is steadily increasing in price. This is becauso of the embargo on Australian fruit. ' The only Australian oranges now available in tho Dominion are those that have been kept in coo} store since Christmas, and the supply of these is nearly exhausted. Prices then have already begun to soar, and are likely to go higher still. As no more oranges will be coming in from Australia unless the embargo is lifted, orange eaters in New Zealand will have to depend for the present on- those imported from California, the next shipment of which will arrive during the first week in February. Those are likely to be much more expensive than Australian oranges, and some people say not nearly as good. The season 'for Island oranges is "a long way off yet, so, taken all round, orange market prospects are. not too bright.
