JAPAN AND CHINA
LEAGUE'S MEDIATIONS
PROCEEDINGS AT GENEVA
MODIFIED METHODS
(British Official Wireless.) I (Received 17th January, 11 a.m.) KTJGBY, 16th January. The Committee of Nineteen, established by the League of Nations to consider the conflict betwen China and Japan over Manchuria, meets in private this afternoon, at Geneva to receive the report of its sub-committee. The reso-'J lution drafted by this sub-committee on .20th December has since been rejected by the Japanese delegation and has met with but .little favour from China.
Since the views of the disputants have been made known the negotiations have been proceeding. Modifications have been made in the resolutions as the result of the new methods of conciliation which have been examined within the last few days and Geneva reports state that a new formula has been dispatched to Tokio and Nanking. The views of the two Governments, however, are not likely to be received in time for to-day's meeting, which, in their absence, will probably be of formal character.
