WICKET CRITICISED

PETONE RECREATION GROUND

Criticism'of one of the wickets at the Petone Recreation Ground was contained in a letter from the captain of the Marigt Junior B team at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association last «vening. The -writer o£ the letter complained that the outfield at the Recreation Ground was in a very rough state, and the wicket was desfrfibed as "atrocious." It was stated that "one might as well have selected a piece of virgin ground on the Town Belt and endeavoured to play cricket upon it." The captain of the Marist team said he •was informed on Saturday morning that the wicket was in a rough state, and after inspecting it he; would not have carried on with the game, except that the Marist players were on the ground, and would have been disappointed at, not playing after making the journey from town. The Petone captain stated that it was the first time his team had played on the ground this season, matches having been played elsrwehere because of the state of the ground. The Marist team would not be disposed to' continue the match next Saturday unless some guarantee was given that something different in the way of a wicket would be provided. The suggestion was made that the Fixtures Committee should visit the ground and asteertain the state of things for themselves. «

The matter was referred to the Junior •Championship Committee.
