WELLINGTON SHOW

ffO BE HELD AT EASTEE

CHANGE FROM THE WINTER

It was decided at a meeting of the general.committee of. the Wellington Show Association last evening to hold the annual show this year at Easter instead of in - the winter. chairman, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, said that no doubt a great deal of the report of., the committee on the result o£ the summer.:! carnival* could be discussed if the.-. general committee wished to discuss it. The position, however, was that some o£ the accounts had .not yet been • finalised, and would have to be dealt jwith.;by^ the' finance committee. Owing: to ilie. holidays, the accounts could onlybe :dealt with in a casual way. That matter "was not on the order-paper, but if any member of the general committee desired to discuss it, that would be done. TO OPEN ON 7th APRIL. In reply to a question, the chairman raid there >had ?been: a debit on. the carnival... : principal- object of the present meeting;was to ask for the approval of the general committee to the show being held at Easter, instead of, as usual,.being held in the winter. It was proposed, this year to .make, it a big Eastes;'show. '■ That proposal, he believed,: had met with the -approval of the Manufacturers' Association. It was proposed,;, said Mr. Norwood; to. open the show on' CFriday, 7th April, and that, the official opening • should take place on Bth 'April...-. ..;.':.;-:.".. .;.. . ... '.

The;: secretary, Mr. G. Mitchell, said that it had-always happened in the, past that there was a .lot of hammering and noise -on the* Hay' of the official opening, and the result was that the official opening was in. a certain measure spoiled. The suggested change was for the purpose of avoiding that. If the ordinary opening was at 6 o'clock on Friday, 7th April, and the official opening, toole place on Saturday afternoon, Bth April, the place would- be -in . better order. OPEN FOR TWO WEEKS. Mr. J. Abel said the suggested alteration had^ been, discussed by the committee. The change would be an experiment, and lie could see no: harm in it^ Shows were seldom ready'6n the appointed opening day. -Under: the new arrangement there would: probably be ■a. more orderly and dignified', opening.- No loss of revenue would be involved, rather would the contrary be the case^-the receipts would be increased. Several members of the committee said it was quite a common thing to have the official opening after the ordinary opening. . -'- .'—" "^ •■ ■ ■ . On the. motion of Mr. J. I. Goldsmith, it was agreed that the opening'take place on Friday, 7th April, and the official opening on Saturday, Bth April, at 3 p.m. A resolution waa also carried that the rfiow be'open for 12% days, and not 15 days, as was the case last year. The show programme was then discussed and approved. Mr. J. Abel (Manufacturers' Association) suggested and the chairman moved: ''That the association forgo any profits for this year's show, provided that all expenses are paid by the Show Association—actual out of pocket expenses—and that a joint committee be appointed with full power to act regarding letting of space, etc." The resolution was adopted unanimously- : • '.
